To the editor:
I am writing just from my own personal opinion of views about the city in general. Mainly my concern is all the businesses and homes being demolished. Which is a good thing -- it's an issue that should have been dealt with for a long time.
This at one time was a cute little pottery town. But the downfall first came with the mills shutting down. It only took a few years for the potteries to follow suit. Then many good businesses also closed or moved on to other bigger cities where they could make a better living.
My concern is, what if anything is the city going to do to replace all the demolition with, if nothing at all? I am sure some of the folks here in East Liverpool my age and older can remember back -- who went to school in the 1950s and 1960s and had lots of things for entertainment that kept them occupied.
But I know what you thinking or saying, "Yeah, we had flourishing places of businesses back." Which I agree is very true.
So what does East Liverpool have a lot more of today? All I see and hear about is stealing, drunks and drugs, drugs and more drugs. Our town doesn't need the chaos!
I know it's going to take almost an army to make a difference and it will be in babysteps as well, but I would love to see someone take the initiative and try to make a difference in our historical town.
Here a some ideas and suggestions that I personally would love to see back here in East Liverpool, especially for the younger people more than myself. I once did enjoy -- as I am sure others did as well -- the entertainment and somewhere to go. It's what we did in our early days. I am not looking out for myself but for the now and future generations.
So, therefore, my first suggestion is a rollerskating rink. Hall China would be a perfect site I think. Just gut the building and go for the recreation of a nice place to go on weekends and evenings.
Secondly, how about a nice movie cinema? Instead of driving out of town and giving some other city our hard-earned money.
Third, know one thing everyone would go for: it's a Chuckie Cheese! All kids and families love it at Chuckie Cheese. Kids have their parties there. Not only that, they have lots of entertainment there, too, that everyone enjoys.
Fourth, a social pool hall set up for families. No alcohol for the reason there would be not fighting. We all know how things get out of hand when games are being played and alcohol is involved as well. This way it would be a family setting for kids to play, too.
Well, these are my suggestions. This letter is not intended to step on anyone's toes. Just a few ideas I thought about that might make East Liverpool the talk of the town once again.
