There are some city and county officials with an agenda to close East Liverpool Municipal Court. They are calling it consolidating, when actually it would be closed.
The municipal court has been a part of the East Liverpool historical fabric for 96 years, since 1926. Over 11 employees with over 200 years of court and probation experience would be forced out of jobs. The police departments, City, Liverpool and St. Clair Townships, local attorneys and local citizens would be forced to go to Lisbon to conduct business. So many more inconveniences would also incur.
The court's function is not a revenue making department for the city, but they also don't eat up the budget for the city either. Their function is to keep domestic peace, uphold the law and carry out justice.
Over $675,000 was collected in fines and court costs by the court in 2021 and dispersed out while the city actually paid out $287,000 in salaries, retirement, sick leave buy-out, and health insurance. Correct records and financials are available from the Clerk of Court at 330-385-5151.
Judge Dominic Frank loved the court and had so many positive ideas for it and the city. Then after his death, these officials blind-sided his legacy. Don't let this be how it all ends.
Let your elected officials and county commissioners know that closing the court would have a negative impact on the city and its citizens. DO IT FOR DOM, don't let this be his legacy!
