It is ironic the Democrat candidate for county recorder, Tiffany Chetock, is running for county office on her "record of saving money" and her "extensive training in fiscal management." Yet, as Madison Township fiscal officer, her record has been anything but fiscally responsible. In fact, many believe that she has just plain mishandled the funds that the taxpayers of Madison Township have entrusted to her.
With Tiffany Chetock as fiscal officer of Madison Township, moreover, spending has risen three of the past four years. In total, these increases in spending for this period of time exceed 30 percent. The annual inflation rate for the period has been a mere 1 percent per year or so.
What's worse, rather that living within the means of the township, Ms. Chetock has squirreled away thousands of dollars of township operating funds into "an investment account" while at the same time asking the taxpayers of the township to increase their taxes, not just once but in three of the last four years. This is in addition to four renewal tax measures being put to the voters during this same period of time.
Do seven tax proposals in four years imposed upon the voters of little Madison Township sound "fiscally responsible"?
Well, the taxpayers of Madison Township are on to Ms. Chetock's tax and spend charade. As evidence to this, they have repeatedly said "No" to her calls for tax increases.
Add to this the questionable act by Ms. Chetock of appearing on television ads for the very institution in which she had been investing township funds. The public has a right to know if she was paid for these television appearances. At the very least, this just smells of conflict of interest.
We own property in Madison Township and these are the facts. Is this what we want in the recorder's office? I think not.
The current county recorder, Theresa Bosel, on the other hand, has operated the recorder's office on a substantially lower annual operating budget than her predecessor did while dramatically improving the efficiency of the office. She has spearheaded the investment in new technology so that all of the records of the office could finally be digitized at no expense to us. And rather than taking months to complete a records transaction, today citizens needing to record a deed can do so on a same day basis. Her record speaks for itself. These are the facts.
Unable to defeat Theresa Bosel on her record, Ms. Chetock has unleashed county Democrat chairman Nick Barborak to be attack dog. This is the guy whose law partner (his sister) had to unceremoniously leave the Barborak law firm only to then be suspended from the practice of law for stealing thousands of dollars from estates being handled by the Barborak law firm.
This is all public record. Yet the question remains: Just what and when did Nick Barborak know about this theft occurring in his own law office?
Enough of Barborak's dirty politics and his scandalous campaign for Ms. Chetock. This is the kind of crap Hillary Clinton is known for. It ought to be rejected at the polls on Nov. 8.
