Can we take a minute to discuss the ongoing, drastically growing drug epidemic going on in our communities? How ridiculous is it to you that drug addicts who choose to ruin their lives continuously have a free drug given to them, and then the ones who have no choice to be stung by a bee or ingest a peanut cannot afford their life-saving drug? Can we talk about that?
I seriously don’t understand how as a community, we can allow for multiple revivals done for drug users who choose their lifestyle.
I guarantee everyone will say, “Well, you don’t understand drug addiction” or “Drugs have never affected your life personally”, but to them I say, “You’re wrong!”
In fact, a drug user is in my family, in fact I lost a best friend to the use of drugs. I have watched drugs rip apart my family, and tear through the hearts of other families. I’ve seen drugs ruin family businesses, so for you to say, “Well, people who don’t understand drug use isn’t a choice, but rather an illness, should not give an opinion,” trust me, I understand the “illness”!
Something needs to be done. A law that states how many doses of Narcan can be used on one person. For example, if someone is unconscious and after seven doses of Narcan there is still no response, when is enough enough? How much money can the state actually be saving on those multiple doses? Rather, maybe I should ask how much money is actually being used and how is it actually being paid for?
Someone needs to put an end to this. If we continuously help the same drug addicts over and over again, they obviously aren’t getting themselves help, so why should we give it? A line needs to be drawn.
