Companies that have put down roots in Ohio to take advantage of the legalization of adult-use recreational marijuana are thrilled with the results. According to a report by The Canton Repository, in just the first four days, sales reached more than $11.5 million. That kind of demand also meant prices rose quickly.
"Ohioans were clearly ready and excited for the historic end of cannabis prohibition in the Buckeye State: since the start of adult-use sales, foot traffic and transactions have already increased two to three times across all five Zen Leaf dispensaries statewide in comparison to previous medical-only operations, and we expect to continue seeing robust activity at our stores and via third-party wholesale sales of our products for the foreseeable future," Verano Chief Operating Officer Trip McDermott told the Repository.
In fact, one might expect the excitement to have died down after the initial rush, but businesses report sales remain steady. That is good news not only for the businesses, but for their communities.
Sustained higher prices might make Ohioans pump the brakes just a bit, as some customers speaking to the Repository talked about cheaper prices in Michigan, for example. But smart business owners will figure out what is best for their bottom line.
