To the citizens of Columbiana County
The Columbiana County Auditor’s Office is currently working on what is called the “Triennial Update” of proposed values in accordance with 5713.01B and 5714.24 of the Ohio Revised Code (ORC).
This legally-required process updates property values across the county based upon market trends and recent sales for the purpose of keeping them accurate and equitable. It is important to note that the money collected from property taxes plays an important role in keeping our communities safe and strong by helping fund our schools, police, fire protection, maintaining our roads and supporting community services.
Although the state will make the final decision on what the rate will be, I realize that many people in our county are struggling financially. So, in an effort to keep any increases as low as possible, my office has been in contact with the Ohio Department of Taxation on your behalf.
I believe the current process of valuing property in the state of Ohio is flawed and in desperate need of reform. It is my sincere hope that the governor’s recently-appointed “Property Tax Reform Group” will create a new process that will provide meaningful property tax relief to homeowners and businesses in the near future.
Whatever the Ohio Department of Taxation decides, the change will be reflected on tax bills in 2026.
Nancy Milliken, Columbiana County Auditor
