Gary Winterburn

1949-2026

Gary Winterburn, of Fredericktown, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Oct. 8, 2026, at the age of 77. He was born on Jan. 8, 1949, to Clyde and Geraldine Winterburn.

Gary was a 1968 graduate of East Palestine High School. After high school, Gary became a park ranger at Beaver Creek State Park before later attending the Ohio Police Academy. However, he ultimately found his calling as the manager and constable of Beaver Kettle Farms, where he served for over 46 years. His love and commitment to the land and its preservation will never be matched.

Gary was a lifelong lover of learning and history. He authored three published books: "The Enchanted Village: The History of Fredericktown, Ohio," "The History of the Great Trail," and "Scenes of Little Beaver Creek." He was known for sharing his knowledge, stories, and curiosity with everyone around him. He enjoyed reading, collecting arrowheads, and stoneworking. Gary had a passion for history and music and was always eager to share his knowledge to help others in their "never-ending search for knowledge."

Gary met his beloved Sally Jo when he was just 15 years old. Their friendship grew into a lifelong love, and they married in 1969. Together, they shared 57 wonderful years of marriage, building a life filled with family, love, cherished memories, and adventure.

Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Sally; his children, Shannon (David) Green and Corby (Teresa) Winterburn; his grandchildren, Paris, Nevada, Logan, David Jr., and Ethan; and his great-grandchildren, Oliver, Clyde, Beau, and Vincent.

Visitation will be held at Care Funeral Home in Calcutta on Oct. 13 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Death is not an ending, but a symbol of movement along the path upon which we are all traveling. As it may be painful to lose contact with the physical aspect of one we love, the Spirit can never be lost. We have been and always will be a part of each other." -- John Denver
