WELLSVILLE -- Mary I. Beatty, 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 28, 2026 at the Calcutta Health Care Center following a recent illness.
Mary was born May 31, 1941 in East Liverpool, Ohio, a daughter of the late Ida "Betty" (Silvis) Beatty and the late Rev. Clair Beatty.
Following high school graduation, Mary furthered her education and earned her bachelor's degree in Education at Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee and embarked on a lifelong career in teaching. First teaching two years in Troy, Ohio, then for over 34 years, she taught grades 2nd through 6th at the former Fairview Elementary school in Wellsville School District, retiring in 1997.
Mary was a faithful and active member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder, deacon, sang in the choir, was a Sunday School teacher, and served as Clerk of Session. She was also a member of Christian Endeavor serving in several leadership positions, at both the State and International levels. Mary was also very involved and active with Presbytery and had served on many committees. She served on the Missionary Society and enjoyed reading and travelling. Mary also volunteered with RSVP's Medication Assistance Program.
Mary is survived and will be dearly missed by her sisters, Helen Beatty and Carol (Larry) Galyon; nieces, Rev. Amy (Ken) Haines and Jennifer (Scott) Tucker; great-nephews and -niece, Nathan, Timothy, and Rachel Haines.
In addition to her parents, Mary was also preceded in death by her sister, Edna Palmer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026 at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 16521 Steubenville Pike Road, Salineville, Ohio 43945 with her niece, Rev. Amy Haines officiating. Burial will follow at the Bethel Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the church.
