James L. Koehler, 81, of North Syracuse, N.Y., passed away on June 23, 2026. He was born and raised in Ohio, where he graduated from Columbiana High School in 1963 and joined the U.S. Navy, serving from 1963 to 1969 as a corpsman. He and Martha "Marty" were married in 1969. Jim was a member of the Ruritan Club and served over a decade in the Columbiana Volunteer Fire Department. He completed his degree at Youngstown State University in August of 1978.
In 1979, Jim moved his family to Syracuse, N.Y., where he spent 28 years as an insurance claims manager with Equifax. He was a member of the VFW, Sons of the Revolutionary War and Marine Corps League. He was a member of the S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A barbershop chorus and quartets.
James was predeceased by his parents, James LeRoy and Mary Louise (Asbaugh) Koehler, and his sister, Judith Ann Koehler Spooner.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Martha (Candel) Koehler; children, Kevin (Michelle) Koehler, Jennifer (Susan) Lilly; a sister, Kristen (Richard) McCutcheon; and grandchildren, Jacob and Michael Koehler, and Tray and Michael Lilly.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026 at 10 a.m. at Columbiana Cemetery at Firestone Park, 338 E. Park Ave., Columbiana, OH 44408.
