Gary R. Barnes Sr.

1943-2026

LISBON -- Gary R. Barnes Sr., 83, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026 at his home following an apparent heart attack while he was cutting firewood.

Gary was born Jan. 4, 1943 in Lisbon, a son of the late Harold W. Barnes Sr. and the late Opal (Holleman) Hrebovcin, and had lived his entire life in Lisbon.

At the age of 16, Gary followed in his father's footsteps and became an owner/operator Truck Driver, retiring in 2016. He found great satisfaction in working and travelling the country in his truck, but always looked forward to enjoying the holidays in Florida and spending time in the outdoors.

Gary is survived and will be deeply missed by his wife, Mona "Debbie" (Jack ) Barnes, whom he married Aug. 13, 2011; sons, Gary R. Barnes Jr. and William H. (Lorrie) Barnes; sisters, Candace VanDyne, Jeanne Grace, Kathy Close, Mary Kinser, Joyce (James) Spack, Alice (James) Grubbs, and Amy (Robert) Cosma; brother, Harold W. Barnes Jr.; grandchildren, Renee M. (Matthew) Brown, Sara L. Barnes, Brandon (Alicia) Barnes, and Ashley Barnes; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Mackenzie and Madison Brown, and Colin and Deacon Barnes; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gary was also preceded in death by his first wife, Helen L. Barnes on Aug. 14, 1996; his stepmother, Deanna K. Barnes; and by his sister, Bonnie Cairns.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, 2026 at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Pennington officiating. Burial will follow at the Lisbon Cemetery.

The family will receive guests from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
