William "Bill" Marshall, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his residence on July 27, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on July 12, 1942, in Mechanicstown, Ohio, he was the son of the late Wilford and Louise (Johnston) Marshall. Bill dedicated his life to his family and community.
A graduate of Carrollton High School, Class of 1961, Bill went on to build a successful career as a welder at Crucible Steel in Pennsylvania. Following the closure of the mill, he devoted his time to his family's business, Marshalls Tree Farm, which became a popular destination for holiday shoppers searching for the perfect Christmas tree.
Bill was known for his unwavering dedication to his farm, spending countless hours tending to the land or caring for landscaping. A true outdoorsman, he was an avid hunter and a passionate Ohio State Buckeye fan. For him, autumn Saturdays were reserved for Ohio State Buckeye football. Whether watching from his favorite chair or surrounded by family and friends, he rarely missed a kickoff and cheered for the scarlet and gray with unwavering pride. His passion for the team brought excitement, tradition, and countless memories that will live on with those who watched the game by his side.
Deeply rooted in his community, Bill was actively involved with the Columbiana County 4-H Steer and Beef committee, contributing his efforts during the county fair shows and assisting with guidelines and rules. His commitment to his community and love for agriculture left a lasting impact on those around him.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Wilford and Louise (Johnston) Marshall, and his siblings, Robert Marshall and Kay Marshall.
He leaves behind his wife and soulmate, Shirley A. (Howell) Marshall, whom he married on Aug. 31, 1963. Together, they spent 62 wonderful years raising a family, working their family business, and creating treasured memories.
He is survived by his children: Cindy (Tom) Richey of East Palestine, Mark (Lynette) Marshall of East Liverpool, and Kristine (Douglas) Urmson of Lisbon. Eight grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Nicole, Austin, Melinda, Betty, Hunter, Morgan, and Lincoln, and 10 great-grandchildren: Adalyn, Evey, Cole, Ember, Brantley, Easton, Melody, Ella, Cora, and Jackson, will forever cherish his memory. Additionally, Bill is survived by his brothers Allen Marshall, Mervin Marshall, and Richard Marshall.
In accordance with Bill's wishes, no formal services will be held. However, a memorial service celebrating his life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Bill's memory be made to the Little Beaver Football and Cheerleading organization, located at 8056 Sprucevale Road, Rogers, OH 44455 or by using the "DONATE" button on his obituary.
Bill Marshall's legacy of love, family, and community will be remembered and celebrated by all who knew him. May he rest in peace, knowing his life touched so many in profound and meaningful ways.
