Gayle Morton

1943-2026

Gayle Morton, of Danville, Indiana, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on July 11, 2026, one day after celebrating her 83rd birthday.

Born on July 10, 1943, in Austin, Texas, Gayle was the daughter of the late Victor (Vic) and Wilma Billet. She was raised in Leetonia, Ohio, and earned degrees from Bowling Green State University and Butler University.

Gayle began her teaching career in Berea, Ohio, before moving to Indiana, where she spent 30 years teaching at McClelland Elementary School in Wayne Township. She loved teaching upper elementary students and was known for her quick wit, sense of humor, and dedication to her students. She leaves behind generations of former students whose lives were enriched by her kindness, encouragement, and love of learning.

On Oct. 7, 1967, she married Richard (Dick) Morton. Together they enjoyed golfing, traveling, reading, gardening, and spending winters in Florida.

She is survived by her husband, Richard (Dick) Morton; daughter, Jennifer Morton Hill (Scott); grandchildren, Presley and Justus Hill; sister, Patty (Tate) Burkhart; brother, Bill (Joanie) Billet; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, July 17, at Helton & Harris Funeral Home, Danville. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 18, with visitation one hour prior. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hendricks County Senior Center.
