Eleanor A. Horst

1933-2026

COLUMBIANA — Eleanor A. Horst, 92, of Columbiana, died on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at her home.

She was born on July 22, 1933, in Rittman, Ohio, a daughter of the late Clayton and Emma Horst Burckhart.

Eleanor was a member of the Sharon Mennonite Church and devoted her life to her family, and supporting her husband in his ministerial work.

Her husband, Melvin G. Horst, whom she married on June 2, 1956, preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 2019.

She is survived by five daughters, Janis (Mark) Reinford of Emlenton, Pa., Audrey (Ken) Brandt of Polonia-Manitoba Canada, Jana Lou (Lowell) Beidler of Canton, Pa., Brenda (Michael) Martin of Craig, Colo., and Judith (Andrew) Klippenstein of Columbiana, Ohio; seven sons, Daryl (Carol) Horst of Payette, Idaho, Mark (Sarah) Horst of Newville, Pa., Denis (Shana) Horst of Kingston, Ohio, Gerald (Mary) Horst of Salem, Ohio, Galen (Rachel) Horst of St. Ansgar, Iowa, Steven (Esther) Horst of Helena, Ohio, and Kevin (Ruth) Horst of Fortuna, Calif.; sister, Lois (George) Horst of Othello, Wash.; 116 grandchildren, and 166 great-grandchildren.

Eleanor was preceded in death by a sister, Velma Wenger; brother, Glen Burckhart; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 27, 2026, at the Mt. Joy Mennonite Church, Leetonia, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. with a viewing starting at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the Greenford Christian Church, Greenford, Ohio under the direction of the Sharon Mennonite Church Ministry.

Burial will follow at the Sharon Mennonite Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sharon Mennonite Church, 13070 Green Beaver Rd, Salem, OH 44460.
