Charles Robert May Jr., “Bud,” “Charlie,” 59, of Copperas Cove, Texas, passed unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, in his home with his wife of 38 years by his side. He was born on Feb. 3, 1967, to parents Charles Robert May Sr. and Scherry Lee (Shaw) May.
Charlie graduated high school in 1985 in East Palestine, Ohio, and joined the United States Army after graduation. While he was stationed in Germany he met and married the love of his life, Susanne, on Oct. 30, 1987, and they traveled together to many locations during his military career. He was stationed state side in Washington and Texas and abroad in Germany and Egypt. In addition, he served several tours in Iraq, Kuwait and Bosnia. Charlie is a Desert Storm and Second Gulf War Veteran. While stationed in Germany he drove well over 100,000 accident-free miles in support of 37th Transcom, 28th Transportation Batalion throughout Germany, Holland, and Belgium. He retired from Fort Hood, Texas, with full military honors with 20-plus years of military service when they planted roots in Copperas Cove, Texas. Charlie has been employed by S3 Sitework for roughly 20 years as a heavy equipment hauler and most recently also as a their safety officer.
Charlie’s hobbies include woodworking in his self-made wood shop, making beautiful furniture and gifts for his home and family and friends. He loved planting trees and mowing the lawn. He loved his many pet cats and the animals in his back yard; he could even hand-feed the deer and a skunk. He loved spending time with family, friends and coworkers. He loved helping people and would do anything for anybody at anytime. He always had a smile on his face.
Charlie was preceded in death by his mother, Scherry May; his sister, Brenda Condon; his mother-in-law, Eva Staecker.
Cherished memories of Charlie will be carried on by his loving wife Susanne, father Charles May Sr., sister Amy Papania (Jim Papania), brother Clarence “Butch” May (Tammy May), sister Scherry May, brother-in-law Lonnie Dickey (Brenda) and the many family and friends from all over that loved him.
Due to the unexpected death a celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
