EAST PALESTINE — George A. Rockenberger Jr., 86, passed away March 18, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Boardman.
George was born Aug. 21, 1939, in Salem, Ohio, son of the late George Rockenberger Sr. and Greta (Whittenberger) Rockenberger.
He was a lifelong resident of East Palestine and a 1958 graduate of East Palestine High School. He also was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves. George was owner/operator of Rockenberger Motor Parts for several years prior to his retirement. He was a member and past president of the East Palestine Amateur Radio Club and had the call sign, WA8CSP. He was a member of the Carroll County Historical Society. George enjoyed hit and miss engine shows, going to flea markets, and refurbishing anything he felt needed a second chance. He was very knowledgeable of many things and enjoyed working with his hands. He also loved working outdoors, especially mowing.
George is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janet (Hall) Rockenberger; two sons, John (Olga) Rockenberger of Chardon, Mark (Valarie) Rockenberger of East Palestine; five grandchildren, Anna, Elizabeth, Janet, Ethan and Owen, as well as three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Richard Rockenberger, and three sisters, Katheryn Shaw, Martha Rudloff and Margaret Bricker.
Following George’s wishes, no formal services will be observed. A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
Linsley-Royal Funeral Home in East Palestine is in charge of arrangements.
