MaryAnne Hart

1938-2026

New Waterford — MaryAnne Hart, 87, of New Waterford, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, February 13, 2026, after a brief illness.

Born at home on September 8, 1938, MaryAnne was the only child of Ralph T. and Dorothy (Huff) Elliott. She was Salutatorian of the Fairfield High School class of 1956 and graduated with honors from Kent State University in 1960.

She began her teaching career at United Local Schools and then at Crestview Local Schools where she taught High School Business subjects. After raising her three sons, she returned to teaching briefly in 1986, but shortly thereafter began her second career as a secretary and sign maker at Municipal Signs & Sales in Columbiana, Ohio where she worked the next 38 years until the time of her passing. MaryAnne’s family would like to especially thank the owners of Municipal Signs, Jay Strohecker and Jean Gernert for their years of kindness and camaraderie that they shared with our mother.

MaryAnne loved God, Country, her family and Baseball — especially the Cleveland Indians, who to her, would never be called by any other name. She was a member of the East Fairfield United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for most of her life. Always the rugged outdoorsman, MaryAnne was active in her son’s and grandson’s scouting activities and enjoyed many family Canadian fishing trips where she always caught the most or the biggest fish every trip. She loved all sports, but especially those that her grandkids played, and she attended as many events as she could. During the summers she could be found mowing her six acres of yard or out back “enjoying her deck while reading her newspaper.”

MaryAnne is survived by her three sons, Randy and his wife Diane; Wade and his wife Kayla; and Derrick and his wife Dawn; eight grandchildren, Emily (Ryan) Price, Dylan (Taylor), Mitchell (Hannah), Kyle, Rachel, Dalton, Meredith and Wyatt; and four great-grandchildren, Weller, Cole, Kamryn and Brody. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The funeral service will be held at the East Fairfield United Methodist Church on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Lisa Courtwright presiding. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home in Columbiana, and one hour before the funeral services at the church.

MaryAnne will be laid to rest at East Carmel Cemetery in Rogers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the East Fairfield United Methodist Church, 45675 State Route 558 New Waterford, Ohio 44445, in memory of MaryAnne Hart.
