1949-2026
SALEM — Gary Hugh Lawn Sr., 76, a loving father, grandfather, and brother, passed away on Feb. 2, 2026, at the Blossom Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Salem. Born on July 27, 1949, in Youngstown, Ohio, he was the son of the late Laurence and Ella (Conn) Lawn.
Raised on Woodworth Road in North Lima, Gary was a graduate of Boardman High School, Class of 1968. Enlisting in the United States Air Force shortly after graduation. Gary is a proud Vietnam Veteran, serving four years as a jet aircraft mechanic during the Vietnam-Era. Upon his honorable discharge as a Seargent, he returned to Ohio, working the majority of his professional career in the maintenance department at Ventra, where he retired from.
In his younger years, Gary found joy in raising coon dogs and hunting with them. Gary later developed an interest in raising homing pigeons and participating in the competitive sport of racing pigeons. He was never without a story of one or the other and would be glad to talk to you about them. At home, he could often be found relaxing while watching a Western film and drinking coffee.
Gary’s most cherished role was that of Pap Pap. His love for his family was boundless, and he took immense pride in supporting his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities that he was able to attend locally. His presence on the sidelines was a source of encouragement and joy for his family, and his legacy of love will live on through them.
Gary leaves to carry on his memory; his daughter, Jessica (John) McIntosh of Hanoverton; grandchildren, Gunner (Arianna) McIntosh, Garrett McIntosh, and Vanessa, Darren, and Sara Lawn; and brother, Wayne Lawn of Hubbard.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his son, Gary H. Lawn Jr.; and siblings, Ella May Bokor and Larry Lawn.
Per Gary’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or service.
