Carol J. Damore

1929-2026

NEW WATERFORD — Carol J. Damore, 96, passed away peacefully on Jan. 30, 2026, at her home.

She was born on Oct. 17, 1929, in Struthers, a daughter of the late Lyle Stewart Lowry and Patricia (Rhodes) Lowry. She earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Youngstown College and worked within the Youngstown City Schools until her retirement. Then she worked as a substitute teacher.

Carol had a true sense of wonder about the world and a love for seeing all it had to offer. Over the years, she and her husband proudly traveled to all 50 states and enjoyed memorable trips to Italy and Mexico, collecting stories and experiences along the way. Her faith was a steady and meaningful part of her life, and as a devoted congregant of Wedgewood Evangelical Church, she found great comfort and joy in worship, especially through singing in the choir.

Nothing, however, brought her more happiness than her granddaughters, who were the absolute center of her world. She poured her heart into loving them, supporting them, and cheering them on in everything they did. She also found simple joys in helping tend to their backyard vegetable garden and beating everyone at a round of Chinese checkers. In all she did, she shared warmth, gentleness, and a deep love that will continue to be felt by all who were lucky enough to know her.

Carol leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter, Connie Drohn; granddaughters, Jessica (Adam) Phelps and Angela (Kyle) McQuistion; nieces, Hope (Jim) Fossesca and Jodi Peck; and nephew, Eric Damore.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl J. Damore, whom she married June 27, 1959, and who passed away June 6, 2019; her brother, Lynn Lowry; and her sister, Shirley Cooper.

Friends and family will be received from 10 to 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026, at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home in Boardman, followed immediately by a funeral service beginning at noon. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Tod Homestead Cemetery.
