EAST PALESTINE – William Bingham, 89, of East Palestine, died on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Hospital, Boardman.
He was born in Salem on Oct. 28, 1936.
William was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and was a longtime member of several organizations in East Palestine. He had belonged to Eastern Star Chapter #381, Masonic Lodge #417 F & AM, Eagles #1506, VFW and the American Legion Post #31. William began his career working as a teacher in Pennsylvania before transferring to East Palestine Schools where he retired after 40 years of teaching in 2005. While at East Palestine Schools, William coached cross country, track and basketball. He loved being both a teacher and a coach.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Evelyn Bingham, whom he married on May 27, 1962; two sons, Thomas R. Bingham of East Palestine and Robert (Michelle) Bingham of Greensburg, Pa.; three grandchildren, William Bingham, Cole Bingham and Brittany Ann Bingham; two step grandchildren, Samantha (Eric) Johnson and Haley Bianchi; four great-grandchildren, Grant Johnson, Nora Johnson, Amelia Bianchi and McKayla Bianchi. Also surviving are two cousins, Darlene (Denny) Malaska and Tom (Tina) DeJane.
William was preceded in death by a son, Scott A. Bingham.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
William will be laid to rest at Crest Haven Memorial Gardens, New Waterford.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine.
