1925-2025

LISBON -- Kathryn Gruber Peterson Gallo, almost 101, passed away quietly on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2025 at her daughter's home, with her loving family at her side.

Mrs. Gallo was born Jan. 21, 1925 in Lisbon, a daughter of the late Dr. James C. and Annie (Bradfield) Gruber and had lived her entire life in the area.

A graduate of Lisbon David Anderson High School, she continued her education and became a registered nurse.

She was Dr. Egli's surgical nurse and worked for many years at what is now the Salem Regional Medical Center. Kathryn was one of the Health Nurses at the Columbiana County Health Department and retired from the Alliance City Hospital.

A devout Catholic, she was a life-long member of St. George Catholic Church and a former member of the Altar and Rosary Society.

Kathryn was also an avid card player and member of the Lisbon Bridge Club for many years. She also loved to cook and bake and was an award-winning baker at the Columbiana County Fair for her famous Cinnamon Rolls.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, John W. Peterson and Pete Gallo; her daughter, Barbara Peterson; her sister, Jewyl G. Hina; her brother, James C. Gruber; her grandsons, Thomas R. Bagley III and John W. Guappone; and her granddaughter, Brenda Powell.

Kathryn is survived and will be dearly missed by her daughters, Elizabeth "Betsy" (Robert) Brown of Berlin Center, Ann (Dennis) Ruck of Conneaut, Ohio, Jewyl (Alan) Stevens of Columbus, Ga., Melissa (Matthew) Johnston of Alliance, and Natalie (Eric) Guappone of Lisbon; 22 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2025 at St. George Catholic Church, 271 W. Chestnut St., Lisbon with the Rev. Father Robert Lanterman officiating. Burial will follow at the Lisbon Cemetery.

There will be no public calling hours.
