William Lee ‘Bill’ Augur
1942-2025
William Lee Augur, 83, of East Liverpool, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2025, at the Hospice of the Western Reserve in Westlake, Ohio. His passing followed a period of declining health after the loss of his beloved wife, Judith Walker Augur (nee Beatty), who preceded him in death just three months earlier. Bill joined her only hours before what would have been their 48th wedding anniversary.
Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, to Harold and Elizabeth Augur, Bill spent his childhood and teenage years moving through St. Louis, Illinois, and Indiana. It was in St. Louis that he developed his lifelong devotion to the St. Louis Cardinals. His curiosity, adventurous spirit, and generosity of heart carried him far beyond the places he called home; he lived and worked for three years in Australia, traveled to five continents, and cherished the friendships and stories gathered along the way.
Bill studied Ceramic Engineering at the University of Illinois, proudly calling himself a lifelong Fighting Illini alumnus. His career in ceramic engineering ultimately brought him to East Liverpool, Ohio, where his sharp mind and innovative approach contributed to a field that supported industries around the world. Yet, for all his professional accomplishments, it was his kindness, honesty, and ability to listen deeply that defined him most.
In East Liverpool, he met Judith, the love of his life, and together they built a beautiful family. Bill was the proud father of Kimberly Sessa (Michael), William R. Augur (Angie), and Amanda Vecchio (Paul), and the loving grandfather of Chandler, Michael, William, Devin, Charlie, Elizabeth, Anna, Amelia, Lauren, and Henry. He took great pride in every one of them. His grandchildren will always remember his encouragement, the sparkle in his eyes whenever they achieved something new, and his enthusiasm for showing off the latest photos of his family — and even his grand pets. Whether traveling miles to attend a sports game or simply wearing his cherished “Foxy Grandpa” hat, Bill never missed an opportunity to be present for the moments that mattered.
Bill believed in hard work, simple pleasures, and the importance of being there for others. He was known for his gentle guidance, his love of storytelling, and his deep devotion to family.
William Lee “Bill” Augur leaves behind a legacy of kindness and devotion that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
