LISBON — Verna J. Stoffer, 89, of Lisbon, died on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2025, at Continuing Healthcare of Lisbon.
She was born on July 28, 1936, in Gavers, Ohio, a daughter of the late George and Jessie Flowers VanFossan.
Verna was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Leetonia where she was active with the women’s kitchen group, as well as the Leetonia Community Quilting Club. She was a volunteer for both the V.I.P. and the Red Cross. During her retirement, Verna enjoyed quilting and playing card games with her husband and friends. She also loved attending both her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sporting events. Verna will best be remembered for her unconditional love and support for her children and beloved grandchildren.
Her husband, Donald Eugene Stoffer, whom she married on Nov. 21, 1954, preceded her in death on April 20, 2024.
Verna is survived by her son, Douglas (Shelly) Stoffer of Wernersville, Pa.; daughter, Christina (Dale) Sweeney of Lisbon; a brother, Melvin (Marilyn) VanFossan of Leetonia; four grandchildren, Chad (Michelle) Stoffer, Adam (Jessica) Stoffer, Aaron (Jennifer) Sweeney and Colin Sweeney; two step-grandchildren, Katie (Zach) McCalicher and Rick Greir. Also surviving are several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister, June Montgomery; and three brothers, George VanFossan, Ralph VanFossan and Gerald VanFossan.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Nov. 21, 2025, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Leetonia.
Services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the church, with Pastor Kari Lankford officiating.
Verna will be laid to rest with her husband Donald following a private service in the spring at North Georgetown Cemetery.
