NEW WATERFORD — Elsie J. McConville, 98, passed away Oct. 28, 2025, at the Hospice House in Poland.
Elsie was born May 6, 1927, in Beaver Falls, Pa., daughter of the late Albert and Harriet Chew Hardies.
Elsie was a longtime resident of New Waterford. Elsie was a previous member of the New Waterford Presbyterian Church and most recently attended the New Waterford United Methodist Church. She earned her bachelor’s in education from Geneva College and went on to teach High School English at Crestview Schools for 34 years. After retirement, she volunteered as an elementary school tutor for the district. In 2010, Elsie was inducted into the Crestview Schools Hall of Fame.
Elsie enjoyed planning bus trips with her husband and former students, organizing domino games with friends and neighbors. She was an avid walker and was always active and well known throughout the community. She had strong faith and loved her family and was a friend to everyone she met.
Elsie is survived by her son, Chip (Cathy) McConville of Millwood, Virginia; a son-in-law, Gary Garrod; four grandchildren, DJ McConville, Corey (Melissa) McConville, Chad (Shannon) McConville and Jody Garrod-Schantz, as well as nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester J. McConville, in 2015; a daughter, Becky Garrod in 2011; a granddaughter, Jessica Garrod-Dieter; and two brothers, Albert and Chuck Hardies.
Following Elsie’s wishes, she will be laid to rest privately alongside her husband at New Waterford Cemetery.
