EAST PALESTINE -- Russell R. Sherrill, 80, of East Palestine, died on Friday, June 13, 2025, at St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center, Columbiana.
He was born on June 13, 1945, in Darlington, Pa., son of the late Virgil and Elnora Berresford Sherrill.
Russell was an auto worker at GM Lordstown until he retired after 38 and a half years. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ, Glenmore. Russell enjoyed volunteering at his church, woodworking, gardening, traveling, playing with his grandchildren and being together with his family.
Russell is survived by his wife Bonnie Knight Sherrill, whom he married on July 16, 1966; two daughters, Melissa (Matt) Trahan of Lakewood and Jessica (TJ Wallenhorst) Correia of Twinsburg; five grandchildren, Ilyana Correia, Wyland Correia, Sylah Correia, Adelya Wallenhorst and Zayden Wallenhorst; seven siblings, Mary Taylor, John (Nancy) Sherrill, Sonja McIntosh, David Sherrill, Edward (Gerry) Sherrill, Charlene (Mike) Green and Darlene (Bill) Kohn.
He was preceded in death by sister, Margaret Cox.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 15, 2025, from 4 to 6 p.m. and on Monday, June 16, 2025, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 16, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine, with Pastor William McCartney officiating.
Burial will take place at Crest Haven Memorial Gardens, New Waterford.
