Harry W. Swearingen
1935-2025
PETERSBURG — Harry W. Swearingen, 89, of Petersburg, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Hospice House, Poland.
He was born on July 11, 1935, in Wellsville, the son of the late Walter and Mary Chettle Swearingen.
Harry was a graduate of Wellsville High School. After school, he began working at American Paper, followed by Salem Label, and then GM Lordstown where he finished his career retiring in 2004 after 33 years. He enjoyed attending car shows, bargain shopping at both garage and estate sales, and loved mowing his lawn. Harry also enjoyed watching Westminster College volleyball and wintering in Sun City Center, Florida where he loved driving his golf cart and lawn bowling.
His wife, Alice “Vonnie” Smith Swearingen, whom he married on June 30, 1954, preceded him in death on Nov. 12, 1990.
Harry is survived by his two daughters, Debbie (Frank) Freudenberg of New Waterford, and Tammy Swearingen of Petersburg; granddaughter, Stephanie (Scott) Kuhlman of New Waterford; sister, Peggy (Dirk) Kelly of Lisbon, and his beloved K9 companion, “Sweetie.”
He was preceded in death by a special friend, Patricia Bauman.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 1, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m. and again on Monday, June 2, 2025, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.
Services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Annie Parker officiating.
Burial will take place at the Columbiana Cemetery.
