David K. Mumaw

1938-2025

David K. Mumaw, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025, at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh at the age of 86. Born on Nov. 21, 1938, in East Liverpool, the son of the late William and Maude (Chetwyn) Mumaw. Dave lived a life dedicated to his family, community, and country.

Dave was a proud graduate of East Liverpool High School, Class of 1956. Following his graduation, he served his country honorably as a veteran of the United States Navy aboard the USS Dyess from 1956 to 1960.

After his military service, Dave embarked on a long and distinguished career in law enforcement with the East Liverpool Police Department, where he served as a detective and juvenile officer from 1962 until 1990. His commitment to justice and the well-being of his community was further exemplified by his tenure as a bailiff at the East Liverpool Municipal Court. Additionally, he was the previous owner of Italo’s Pizza and shared his time as a valuable part-time employee at the Martin Funeral Home.

Dave was an active member of several fraternal organizations, including the Fraternal Order of Police #29, the Masonic Temple Riddle Lodge #315, and Crystal Chapter #18 of the Order of the Eastern Star. He served as Past Bethel Guardian for Job’s Daughters and as Past Worthy Patron of the Order of Eastern Star, reflecting his deep commitment to community service and fellowship. Dave also spent many years volunteering alongside his family at First United Methodist Church where he would take part in many Barbara Tree activities, serving dinners, and delivering Christmas gifts and food to needy families in the area.

Of all of his accomplishments, Dave was most proud of his family. He could often be found at his granddaughters sporting events or behind the wheel of his car shuttling them from activity to activity while listening to his favorite tunes.

Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sondra Barnes Mumaw, whom he married on April 19, 1962. They shared 57 years together before her passing in 2020. He was also preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Hannah Searight.

Dave is survived by his devoted daughter, Iva Mumaw, and her husband, Scott Searight, of East Liverpool; his cherished granddaughters, Arrianna Mumaw Buck and Maitlynn Mumaw Buck; his sister, Trudy Nolder, and her husband, Robert, of Hanoverton; sisters-in-law, Terry Owens of Wellsville and Pamela Bauer of East Liverpool; and brother-in-law, Harry Barnes of Florida. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and his beloved dog, Maxx.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025 from 1 to 4 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Martin Chapel of Care Funeral & Cremation Specialists in Calcutta. The funeral will follow at 7 p.m. with Reverend Claudia Britton from First United Methodist Church officiating. A special service from the Masonic Lodge will take place at 6:30 p.m. and a Last Radio Call from the East Liverpool Police Department will follow the funeral service.
