Vernon George Burkey

1930-2025
COLUMBIANA – Vernon George Burkey, 94, of Columbiana, passed away Monday morning, March 3, 2025 at Brooksdale Senior Living in Salem.
Mr. Burkey was born on May 19, 1930 in Remus, Mich., a son of Albert Vernon and Bertha Belle (Schultz) Burkey. A proud U.S. Air Force veteran, Vernon served overseas duty as a radio repairman in the territory of Alaska before it became a state. He was discharged with the rank of Airman First Class. He married Mary Virginia “Ginny” Brown on July 13, 1952. He worked as the central office technician at Ohio Bell Telephone, which is now AT & T.
Vernon was a member of First United Methodist Church of Columbiana. He belonged to the East Palestine Chapter No. 381 Order of the Eastern Star and the Allen Lodge # 276 F & AM in Columbiana.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory his three daughters, Rebecca (Mohammad) Ali of Portland, Oregon, Linda Burkey of Columbiana, and Barbara (Steve) Stevens of Virginia Beach, Virginia; his son Raymond (Judy) Burkey of Lisbon; grandchildren Michelle, Anthony, Gibby Ray, Jamie, Trudy, Yasmine, Sabina, Kamran, Alea and Odie; 10 great-grandchildren; and his sisters Lois Morse and Elizabeth Beiling.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ginny and brother James Burkey.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 11 a.m. at the chapel in Columbiana Cemetery.
Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 290 of Columbiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Vernon’s memory be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
