Richard L. ‘Dick’ Firth

1933-2025
HANOVERTON — Richard L. “Dick” Firth, 91, died Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Minerva Healthcare, surrounded by family.
Richard was born on July 27, 1933, in Salem, Ohio, the son of the late Lloyd and Ethel Frankford Firth.
He was a graduate of Salem High School and was later drafted into the United States Army. Dick served as an Army tank turret mechanic in Germany from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1958. Returning home after his military service, he married the former Norma Sell on Sept. 5, 1958, and they made their home in Hanoverton where they raised their three sons. They celebrated 66 years of marriage prior to Norma’s passing on Dec. 3, 2024.
For most of his career, Dick worked as a machinist for TRW in Minerva which is now PCC Airfoils. After retirement, he enjoyed working part-time at True Value Hardware in Minerva and playing Santa Claus at Christmastime.
Survivors include his sons, Ronald Firth, George (Mary) Firth, and Larry (Christine) Firth; brother, John Firth; grandchildren, Casandra (Michael) Kolton, MacKenzie (Teddy) Williams, and Tori Firth; and great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Adaline.
In addition to his parents and wife, Dick was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Firth, and infant sister, Marillyn Firth.
No services will be held per Dick’s wishes. Burial will be at Woodsdale Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in Dick’s name to Winona Friends Church, 4664 Whinnery Road, Salem, Ohio 44460.
Dick’s family would like to express their appreciation and thank the staff and his friends at Minerva Healthcare for the wonderful care and friendship during his stay.
Arrangements are being handled by the Stark Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
