EAST PALESTINE -- Judith Ann Frederick, 78, of W. North Ave., passed away on March 14, 2025, at her home in East Palestine, after a courageous battle with cancer. Judy was a native of East Palestine, Ohio, before moving to Texas in the late 1970s, where she lived for many years. She ultimately moved back to her hometown of East Palestine in the early 1990s.
She was born on June 18, 1946 in Salem, Ohio, the daughter of the late James and Thelma (Beers) McCready. Judy graduated from East Palestine High School in 1964 and subsequently attended Kent State University, where she earned her degree in education in 1968. She ultimately completed her master's degree at Ashland University in 2000. Judy dedicated her life to nurturing young minds and fostering a love for learning in every student she encountered.
She was known for her boundless patience, creativity, and her ability to make every child feel special. Judy believed in the potential of each student and worked tirelessly to help them reach their fullest capabilities. Her classroom was a place filled with joy, curiosity, and endless possibilities. Throughout her 34-year teaching career, Judy had a positive impact on countless young minds. She spent most of her career in the East Palestine School District in East Palestine, Ohio. Additionally, she taught for many years in the Ector County Independent School District in Odessa, Texas, and the Kilgore Independent School District in Kilgore, Texas.
Judy exhibited this same love and passion with her grandchildren. You would often find her sitting on the floor reading books and playing games or gathered around the dining room table working on puzzles with them. Judy was at her happiest when surrounded by her family. She loved listening to her sons tease each other as they reminisced about their younger years, and she cherished the moments when her grandchildren were together, creating treasured memories that would last a lifetime.
Along with her passion for teaching, she cherished spending time with her close friends from the class of 1964, as well as members of her card club, book club, and teacher groups, along with many friends in her neighborhood. She was an active member of Centenary United Methodist Church and the Moose Lodge #467.
Judy is survived by her loving family, husband Ted Frederick, whom she married June 27, 1998; one brother, Richard McCready and wife Carol of Kingwood, Texas; four children, Aaron Russell of Prescott Valley, Arizona, Alex Russell and his wife Kristy of Longview, Texas, Lee Russell and his wife Lisa of Pickerington, Ohio, Marc Russell and his wife Sara of Ocala, Florida, and nephew Eric Gingher and his wife Kim of East Palestine, Ohio; three step-children, Shelly Downey and her husband Rick of Columbiana, Ohio, Tim Frederick and his wife Tara of East Palestine, Ohio and Sara Frederick (Wade Baer) of Columbiana, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Garrett (Sabrina Cave), Grant, and Emma Russell of Prescott Valley, Arizona, Trenton Russell of Longview, Texas, Paul, Cora, Stella and Henry Russell of Pickerington, Ohio, and Landree and Palmer Russell of Ocala, Florida; three step-grandchildren, Jacob Rhodes currently attending Westminster College, and Lilly and Lucas Stamp of Columbiana, Ohio; as well as great-granddaughter Adaline Russell of Prescott Valley, Arizona, with her second great-grandchild, baby boy Russell, due in May 2025.
In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia McCready Gingher; brother, James McCready; and grandson, Taylor Scott Russell.
As we say goodbye to Judy, we hold onto the precious memories and the profound impact she had on us close to our hearts. Her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love have left an indelible mark on our lives. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us every day. We will cherish the countless moments of joy, laughter, and love she shared with us. Judy will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Linsley-Royal Funeral Home in East Palestine. We invite all those who loved her to come join us in celebrating her life as we say our final goodbyes to a truly remarkable classy and special woman.
