John Wayne Rudibaugh

John Wayne Rudibaugh, son of Leona and Wayne Rudibaugh of Rogers, Ohio, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 3, 2025. His extraordinary life was defined by his unwavering commitment to his family, faith, and pursuit of innovation. John's infectious enthusiasm for life inspired all who knew him, whether through his business ventures or as a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. His legacy stands as a testament to the enduring power of love, hard work, and integrity.

Though his family owned a successful feed mill business in Ohio, John chose to forge his own path by attending the Virginia Military Institute (VMI), where he graduated in 1961 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and spent his early career at Fort Polk, Louisiana, training recruits for the Vietnam War. After his military service, John returned to Ohio to further his education, earning an MBA from Xavier University in Cincinnati, followed by studying law at Capital Law School in Columbus, Ohio.

An entrepreneur at heart, John founded Pennsy Corporation, a railroad engineering company, in West Chester (PA) in 1984. His innovative, patented products improved the safety and efficiency of freight cars and are still used worldwide today. The company celebrated its 40th anniversary last year, and John remained actively involved until his passing.

John was a man of passion and purpose. He loved golf, gardening, travel, and sports cars. A firm believer in the value of education and community, he served on the board of West Chester Friends School and supported numerous charities and food banks across Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Most of all, John loved his family. His grandchildren recall that no matter how busy their 'Pop Pop' was, he always made time to give them a call, check in on them, and was the first to express how proud he was of them. Affectionately nicknamed "Mr. Irresistible," John's charisma and charm were legendary, and his gift for bringing people together led to many iconic Christmas parties and birthday celebrations being held at their home. A role model in both relationships and business, John was a visionary, always planning for the future with an iron in every fire.

John was deeply cherished as a husband, father, grandfather, business partner, and friend. His presence will be especially missed by his devoted wife of 62 years, Doris Rhodes; his four daughters: Jennifer (William LeFebvre), Jessica (Ricardo Perez), Alison (Jeff Adler), and Amy (John Deschner); and his 13 grandchildren, with whom he spent many memorable summers at their beach house in Lewes, Delaware: Alexander, Emma, Sophie, Isabelle, Olivia, John, Catherine, Autumn, William, Fred, Charlie, Mercy, and Will.

John exemplified living life to the fullest, balancing a drive for success with a steadfast commitment to those he loved. He will be deeply missed; however, his legacy of kindness, generosity, and leadership will continue to inspire those who had the fortune of knowing him.
