AUSTINTOWN -- Phyllis Mae Hamilton, 91, formerly of Lisbon, passed away at 10:53 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2025 at Brookdale Austintown.
Ms. Hamilton was born April 25, 1933 in Negley, Ohio, a daughter of the late Earl and Margaret (Keeney) Hamilton and had lived most of near Gavers.
A graduate of Lisbon David Anderson High School, Phyllis had worked for sometime at the law firm of Lafferty and Lewis while attending Kent State University. She earned her Bachelor degree in Education from Kent State University and later received her Master's degree in Education from Duquesne University and began her teaching career in 1963. Phyllis taught at both Southern Local and United Local Schools before moving to the Pittsburgh Area, where she taught in the Keystone Oaks School District, retiring in 2002.
She had many interests, including reading, music and traveling. Most of all she enjoyed the company of her many nieces and nephews.
Phyllis is survived by her sister, Shirley (the late Amzi) Hough of Salem; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Hamilton was preceded in death by her stepmother, Grace Hamilton; sister, Anna Margaret Hamilton; nephew, Kevin Hough; and great-niece Jacqueline Hough.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025, at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with Rev. Brian Brown officiating. Burial will follow at the New Lebanon U.P. Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.
