EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio - Dixie Darlyne (Mackey) Morris, 84, of East Liverpool went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2025, at Valley Hospice Care Center North with her family by her side.
Dixie was born in East Liverpool on June 2, 1940. She was a graduate of East Liverpool High School Class of 1958, East Liverpool City Hospital School of Nursing in 1974 as the class salutatorian. Dixie earned a Bachelor of Science in health care administration from St. Joseph College in 1990. She was a member of Longs Run Trinity Presbyterian Church for over 60 years where she served as an elder. Dixie was also a member of Beaver Local Board of Education. Dixie was a former President of the Ohio Emergency Nurse's Association and was a Cub Scout den mother. She was the administrative director of East Liverpool City Hospital Emergency Room for 25 years. Dixie retired from the Health Department as the Director of Homeland Security for Columbiana County.
Dixie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She loved her children, but her grandchildren were her greatest joy. She loved cooking for her family. On a sunny day she could be found sitting by the pool with a book.
Preceding Dixie in death were her husband Harry O. Morris; mother Wilma (Slagle) English and stepfather Paul English.
Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Jana Morris Keuper and her husband Tim and Paula Morris Winnett and her husband Kevin; two sons, Harry "Buzzy" Morris and his wife Terri, Shayne Morris and his wife Stephanie; 12 grandchildren, Janele Spann and her husband Derrick, Amanda Phillips and her husband Patrick, Pamela Titus and her husband David, Anthony Williams and his wife Brianne, Gregory Morris, Melissa Englund and her husband Jonathan, Osten Morris, Olivia Renforth, Mackenzie Morris, Marcus McClellan, Seth Morris and K. D. Morris; 19 great-grandchildren, Danyon and her husband Chad, Ariel and her husband Joe, Brendon, Hannah and her husband Zack, Dylise, Adrionna, Faith, Brilee, Caroline, Addilee, Lily, Bryson, Anthony and his wife Kayla, Prasun, Ananya, Varsha, Cyrus, Osten, and Sophie; two great-great-grandchildren, Chad Michael and Jayden; and two special cousins, Pam Fouse and her husband Don and Cassie Stephens and her husband John.
Friends may visit Saturday at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. Per her request her grandson Deacon Derrick Spann of First Baptist Church in Wellsville will conduct a funeral service Saturday 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Private burial at Longs Run Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to North Star Ambulance, very special thank you to Valley Hospice and also a very special thank you to Dixie's neighbors Debbie and Chuck Bayer, Liz and Mike McKinnon and Gloria and Dan Hickman for keeping a watchful eye on her and always being a phone call away if she needed anything. She truly appreciated all the meals they brought over to her, ensuring her garbage was out every Tuesday, bringing her newspaper to the porch and so many more acts of kindness.
