Esther ‘Lillian’ Chick

1932-2025

EAST PALESTINE -- Esther "Lillian" Chick, 92, passed away Jan. 21, 2025, at the Christian House in East Palestine.

Lillian was born March 22, 1932, in Aliquippa, Pa., daughter of the late Henry and Anna Marie (Svedok) Liberatore.

She has resided in East Palestine since 1969 and was a faithful member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and volunteered with the Christian Mothers and Ladies Aid Society. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and was past president of the East Palestine VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Washingtonville Post of the USMC Ladies auxiliary and a member of the East Palestine Moose Lodge.

Lillian is survived by three sons, John (Connie) Rager of East Palestine, Bill (Patty) Chick of East Palestine, Carmen A. (Casey) Chick of Salem; eight grandchildren, Misty Kalcevic, Christopher Calhoun, Corey, David, Daniel, Bruno, Carmen "Mario" and Sam Chick; as well as five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John W. Rager, in 1962 and her second husband in 2000, Carmen B. Chick, former mayor of East Palestine; a son, James Rager; and a brother, Frank Liberatore.

A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in East Palestine, with Father Chad Johnson serving as celebrant. A private burial will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
