Earl J. Hartford

Earl J. Hartford, 82, of Leavittsburg, Ohio passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at his home.

He was born September 14, 1942, in Wellsville, Ohio, the son of the late Paul J. Hartford and the late Blanche Bebout Hartford.

On April 30, 1966, Earl married the former Barbara E. Sten, and they were married for 58 years.

He was a 1961 graduate of Wellsville High School. Earl proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. After his service, he dedicated 45 years to his profession as a skilled machinist, working with American Welding and later with Commercial Metal Forming.

Beyond his career, Earl was a man of faith who attended Braceville Methodist Church. His interests included camping, working outside, taking care of his farm, mowing grass, and spending time by his pond. Earl was a proud father of three and helped raise 40 foster children. He loved his family.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara E. Hartford; two sons, Robert Allen Hartford of Va., and Michael James (Lori) Hartford of Lordstown, Ohio; a daughter, Melissa Lynn (Lou) Olesky of Mineral Ridge, Ohio, and a granddaughter, Alena Marie Harcarik. Also surviving are two sisters, Charlene Sargent of Wellsville, Ohio, and Evelyn (Bob) Dornick of Salem, Ohio.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Pauline LaScola and Sue Pennington.

Direct cremation has taken place and per Earl’s request there will be no service or calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any material contributions be made to Braceville Methodist Church, in his memory.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.
