Virginia E. Conkle Covert

1931-2024

EAST LIVERPOOL - Virginia E. Conkle Covert, 93, of East Liverpool, passed away Thursday, Dec. 12, 2024, at the Calcutta Health Care Center following a lengthy illness.

Born in Marion, Ohio, on Jan. 5, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Otis and Mabel Hummer Holland. A resident of this area most of her life, she worked at the former James Locke Jewelers as a sales associate since 1959. She was formerly a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church and then the Wellsville First Christian Church. At Trinity, she was a deacon, an elder and was a member of the Diakonia Class and the Amikitia Class. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women in East Liverpool, a Nike Club sponsor at Beaver Local, Jr. Women's Club, Triangle Seniors, FISH and a Troop 12 Boys Scout Den Mother.

She was preceded in death by three husbands: William A. Conkle, James H. Hillyer, and James R. Covert. She was also preceded in death by a son, Ronald G. Conkle.

She is survived by two sons, James W. Conkle and his wife, Sandy, and Steven R. Conkle; a sister, Shirley Young; six grandchildren: Tammy Conkle Sonntog (Jeff), Veronica Conkle, Sarah Conkle, Greg Conkle (Marci), William Conkle, and Justin Conkle; and one great-grandchild, Cameron Lane. She also leaves her companion, Bill Shollenberger.

Dr. Pastor William Wagner will conduct a memorial service at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 2025, at the Dawson Funeral Home. Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Pleasant Heights Baptist Church for fellowship. Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park.
