Doris C. (Shoop) Yeagley, 86, most recently of Baltimore, Maryland, died Nov. 26 in the hospice unit at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore.
She was born July 3, 1938, in Salem, Ohio, a daughter of the late William and Alma (Hopper Spanbauer) Shoop. She graduated from Salem High School in 1956.
Throughout her career, Doris was drawn to the hospitality field and early-on managed the Barnett's Motel west of Salem. She was for a time caretaker at a group home in Masury in Trumbull County. Doris later moved to Washington, D.C. to earn a degree in hotel management and worked as a hostess and front desk clerk at the famous Watergate Hotel. She contributed for years to patient orientation at Whitman Walker, a clinic serving HIV research in D.C. In the early 1970s, Doris was an executive assistant in the office at NRM in Columbiana. In the 1980s and before retirement, she managed the landmark Parkway Tower apartment building off Wick Park in Youngstown.
Doris was a talented artist, selling paintings and doing private artwork for various businesses while raising her then young children in Washingtonville.
She is survived by her five children: sons Jeffrey (Lei Wu) Yeagley of Oklahoma, Darryl Yeagley of Maryland, and Allan Yeagley of Youngstown, and two daughters, Susan (Yeagley) Blaik of Maryland and Sharon (Ken) Crown of Girard; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brother Ronald (Shirley) Shoop of Maryland, and sisters Gretchen (Shoop Kornbau) Whitman of Salem and Cathie (Shoop) DeFazio of Lisbon.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by an infant daughter Diane (twin to Darryl); son-in-law Duc Truong, and by five half-siblings: Charles Shoop, William Shoop Jr., Dorothy (Shoop) Long, Francis (Frank) Spanbauer, and Robert Spanbauer.
Doris was of the Christian faith and will be memorialized in a family service at a later date.
