William Stanley Miller

1930-2024

KENSINGTON — William Stanley Miller passed away on Nov. 3, 2024, at the age of 94, surrounded by his loved ones. His family was his pride and joy. William was known by many names to many different people: Billy, Bill, Willie, Willdog, Dad, Papa, Papaw, and Pappy. He was a remarkable man who will be sorely missed by all who were privileged to know him.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys; his sister, Patty; his children George (Brenda), Jane (Tim), David (Brenda); and his 12 grandchildren, Jessica (Tom), Brook (Daryl), Ashley (Tucker), Kodey (Eddie), Joel (Adam), Haeli (Chad), Brittany (Stephen), Carrie (Chase), Abby, Josh, Erika (Christopher), and Jordan (Casey). He is also survived by his 22 great-grandchildren who he was blessed to enjoy over the past 14 years. Bill leaves his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with countless memories. He was never too busy to make time for stories or share his love of gardening, fishing, hunting, coloring, camping, square dancing, and the oilfield, just to name a few.

William Stanley Miller was born in Grandview, Ohio on Sept. 28, 1930, to Anna Martina and George Washington Miller. Bill was one of five children. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son, Stanley William, and siblings, Alberta, Shelda, and Dean.

Bill lost his father at a young age. From his first job as a newspaper boy, there was never a day that he didn’t work. He enlisted in the military at the age of 18, rising to the rank of Army Sergeant First Class. Bill fought heroically in the Korean War, receiving a Presidential Unit Citation, Distinguished Unit Citation, United Nations Service Medal, and a Korean Service Medal with 5 Bronze Service Stars. He was honorably discharged Oct. 1, 1952.

Bill was also a member of the New Masonic Lodge #65 for 42 years and held the degree of Master Mason.

After a whirlwind courtship, Bill married Gladys Edna McGill on Dec. 20, 1952. This December would have marked 72 years. Over the past 40 plus years he worked alongside his children to build the family business, William S. Miller, Inc.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Stark Memorial Funeral Home in Salem, Ohio.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, Nov. 8, 2024, at 10 a.m., at Winona Friends Church, 4615 Whinnery Road, Salem, Ohio 44460, followed by burial at Grove Hill Cemetery. There will be a celebration of life immediately following the burial at Winona Friends Church.
