Vickie Simon

Vickie Simon, 73, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Sept. 19, 2024, at the University of Kansas Hospital after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Vickie was born in Salem, Ohio, to Robert and Mary McConahy and grew up in East Palestine, Ohio. After graduating from high school in East Palestine, she attended Youngstown State University while working locally.

Vickie married her high school sweetheart, Phil Simon, in East Palestine, and they had one son, Dan. Phil's career with John Deere took them to several states and even Australia, allowing them to make many friends and connections worldwide, especially in Olathe, Kansas, where they continued to reside. No one made friends more quickly or formed more long-lasting connections than Vickie, who thrived on close friendships!

Vickie was preceded in death by her parents, Robert (Bus) and Mary McConahy, and her brother Robert McConahy (Margaret). In addition to her husband Phil, she is survived by her son, Dr. Dan Simon (Lauren) of Salt Lake City; her sister Carol Delagrange of Hartville, Ohio; her brother David McConahy (Mary Ruth) of Vero Beach, Florida; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Vickie dearly loved her family and enjoyed all outdoor activities, especially time on the water. She cherished time at the family farm in Ohio and loved entertaining her many friends at her home year round. Vickie regularly hosted gatherings at her pool, where she delighted in swimming and spending time with loved ones.

Extremely charitable, Vickie volunteered for may activities at her church and schools. She greatly enjoyed assisting teachers with young elementary school children in Kansas City schools.

Vickie was a strong supporter of cancer fundraising activities for research and cures, so in lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made to a cancer fund of your choice.

A memorial service was held on Sept. 26 at Resurrection Brookside Church, Kansas City, Missouri.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27, at The Barn at Firestone Farms, 1501 Eisenhower Blvd., Columbiana, OH 44408 (located at the southeast corner of state routes 7 and 14).
