SALINEVILLE -- Fred Emil Lindner, 97, of Salineville, Ohio died peacefully Monday morning Sept. 16, 2024 at Aultman Hospital in Alliance, Ohio with his family by his side.
Fred was born on Feb. 2, 1927, a son of the late Fred James and Glenna Mae Plunkett Lindner.
Fred lived his entire life in the Salineville area and worked as a die maker for 46 years at Sterling China in Wellsville until his retirement in 1989.
Fred was a WW II veteran, proudly enlisting in the U.S. Navy at the age of 18. He served aboard the USS Peter H. Burnett as a machinist. Fred was a kind, quiet man who cherished being with his family and helping others. He enjoyed being outside, especially tending to his lawn. Chartered bus trips with friends was also a favorite pastime. He was fortunate to fly to Washington DC as part of the Honors Flight for veterans in 2019.
Fred will be sadly missed by his daughter Kathy (Jeff) Gill of Leetonia and his son Michael (Debbie) Lindner of Louisville, Ohio; one brother, James (Jane) Lindner of Salineville; four grandchildren, Shawn Lindner, Scott Lindner, Ethan Gill, and Chloe Gill; six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lorna Lewis Lindner, whom he married on Feb. 5, 1945. They lived together happily for 48 years until her death in 1993. In addition, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Jarvis and Eunice Gossman; three brothers, Dean Lindner, Carl Lindner, Melvin Dauwe; and step mother, Alma Dauwe Lindner.
A private funeral service and burial will be held in the Highlandtown Cemetery at 2 p.m on Oct. 6. Full military honors will be accorded by the American Legion John Adams Post 442.
