Wayne L. McConnell
1938-2024
It is with deep sorrow and immense love that we mourn the passing of Wayne L. McConnell, affectionately known as Wayne to his friends and family, who left us peacefully on Sept. 14, 2024, at Masternick’s Nursing Home. Born on Aug. 4, 1938, in East Palestine, Ohio, Wayne’s journey through life was marked by his unwavering work ethic, his joy for life’s simple pleasures, and the warmth of his companionship. Wayne was the cherished son of the late Sara Jane and Neumon McConnell and a beloved brother to Edalene Guy. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Joseph L. Guy Jr. His legacy continues through his adoring nieces, Shari Guy, Lana Huff, and Connie Borelli; as well as his great-nephew, Brandon Huff Sr. and his wife, Mary and Brandon Huff Jr.; and his great-niece, Sara, and her husband, Vincent Castorano.
A proud graduate of East Palestine High School, Wayne’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to become the respected owner of McConnell’s Builders Supply and Hilltop Market. His dedication to his work was evident to all who knew him, and his willingness to lend a hand at Brittain Motors whenever necessary earned him the reputation of a true jack of all trades. He was also a United States veteran serving in the U.S. Army for a short term in 1957. Wayne’s contributions to his community and the lives he touched through his professional endeavors will be remembered fondly.
Wayne’s passion for life extended beyond his career. He was an avid golfer, a dedicated member of the East Palestine Country Club, and an active participant in the Brittain Motors Golf League. His love for the game was matched only by the joy he felt watching his great-nephew Brandon’s racing career, a testament to his supportive nature and the pride he took in his family’s achievements.
In quieter moments, Wayne found great joy in the companionship of his loving furry friend, Juliette. Together, they shared many serene afternoons, and the bond they formed was a source of comfort and happiness for them both. Wayne’s presence in our lives was a gift–one that we will forever hold dear in our hearts. His quick wit, his hearty laugh, and his ability to find contentment in the day-to-day will serve as an inspiration to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Wayne’s life was one of purpose, kindness, and generosity, and the memories of the times we shared will continue to light our way.
As we say goodbye to Wayne, we reflect on a life well-lived, a man well-loved, and a legacy of enduring strength and compassion. He will be greatly missed, yet we take solace in knowing that his spirit lives on through the many lives he touched. In honor of Wayne’s life, we will gather to share stories, laughter, and memories, celebrating the man who brought so much joy into our world. Wayne’s journey may have come to a close, but the paths he paved and the love he shared will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew him. Rest in peace, dear Wayne. Your memory will be cherished, and your life celebrated, as we hold you close in our thoughts and forever in our hearts.
