Terry Jay Hays, 68, of Salineville died unexpectedly on Sept. 23, 2024 at East Liverpool City Hospital.
Jay was born in East Liverpool on June 22, 1956 a son of the late William R. Hays and Kathleen (Rager) Hays.
Having lived all his life in the area, Jay was a graduate of Southern Local High School class of 1974, attended Jefferson Technical School and obtained his degree from Kent State University. He was very proud of his work as a Prototype Technician for PCC Airfoils for 36 years until his retirement in 2020. He was still currently doing consulting work which he had been doing since his retirement.
Jay was a member of Bethel United Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Salineville Order #348 of the Free and accepted Masons as well as the East Liverpool Chapter #100 Royal Arch Masons.
He enjoyed ballroom dancing with his dance crew family; loved bicycling and was a supporter of the Greenway Bike Trail, loved to travel, was a historian, and a professional joke and story teller. He loved to make those around him laugh. He enjoyed his time riding on his John Deere Tractor and playing cards with friends and family. He also loved watching and cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Indians.
Jay is survived by his wife and best friend who loved and cherished dancing every day through life with him: Terry Jean (Brothers) Hays whom he married March 26, 1983; two brothers: Dean (Dana) Hays of Lima, Ohio, and Jon (Lisa) Hays of East Liverpool.
In addition to his parents Jay was preceded in death by a brother: William R. Hays Jr.; an infant sister: Elizabeth Hays and his two beloved cats: Chip and Cody.
Jay will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
Services will be held at the Fellowship of the Beloved Church, 13696 Bethesda Road, Hanoverton, OH 44423, Monday, Sept. 30, 2024 at noon with Pastor Rick Lautzenheiser officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery.
The family will be present to receive friends at the church on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2024 from 3 to 7 p.m.
The family requests that flowers be sent or memorial donations may be made in Jay's name to the Fellowship of the Beloved Church at the above listed address.
The Kerr Watson Funeral Home in Salineville has been entrusted with arrangements.
