EAST PALESTINE -- It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James "Jim" Nulf, 85, a lifelong resident of East Palestine, on September 24, 2024 at St. Elizabeth's Health Center in Boardman surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband, father, and cherished grandfather, Jim was a man who found his greatest joy in the accomplishments and passions of his family. Jim was not only known as "Poppa" to his grandkids, but to many others in his grandchildren's lives. He was special to so many.
Jim was born July 13, 1939, in East Palestine, Ohio, son of the late Ted and Wilda Duignan Nulf.
Jim was a 1958 graduate of East Palestine High School. He served as a sergeant in the Army Reserves. Jim was a member of the East Palestine Eagles and was a member of the East Palestine Masonic Lodge for over 50 years and a member of the Shrine Club.
Jim ran J.J. Equipment from 1970-1988 at which time he incorporated and changed the name to NULFCO, which he was still actively serving as president. He was an avid car collector and a past member of the Steel town Corvette Club. He had fond memories of driving from the Santa Monica Pier along Route 66 in his original 1963 Corvette and the many car shows that he traveled to with his family. He also collected antique firetrucks, wreckers, and military vehicles.
Jim enjoyed spending time with his fellow '58 classmates and his many lifelong friends. Watching Ohio State football games, spending time with his buddies at their local breakfast/lunch spot, and trying new restaurants with his wife were some of his favorite things to do. The pride and joy of his life were his grandchildren that he adored. He was their biggest fan and supporter at their baseball games, softball games, dance recitals, volleyball games, tennis lessons, golf matches, and swim lessons.
Jim is survived by his wife of 45 years, Wanda (Helton) Nulf; five children, James (Kerry) Nulf, Jr., of Naples, Fla., Jennifer Nulf-Garvin of Freedom, Pa., Jimmy (April) Nulf of Alabama; Tina McTague of New Waterford, Mike Landsberger of East Palestine; son-in-law, Harold Loper of Columbus; a sister, Jill (Bill) Bricker; eight grandchildren, Nic, Nathan, Mitchell, Madelynn, Hunter, Ella, James III and Miles.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Loper, brother, Dave Nulf and his Aunt, Alice Butler.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the Linsley-Royal Funeral Home in East Palestine. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday with Pastor Cindy Figley officiating. Interment will follow at Glenview Cemetery in East Palestine.
