Janice Doran

1935-2024

EAST PALESTINE --Janice Dorothy Doran, 88, formerly of East Palestine, passed away June 30, 2024, at approximately 3:45 p.m. with family by her side.

Janice was born December 16, 1935, to Dorothy Marie Murphy-Mahon and Clarence "Coxie" Mahon, at their family home in Negley. Janice was the youngest of the brothers and sisters.

Janice attended East Palestine schools and graduated in 1953 from East Palestine High School. Janice had formerly served as the High School's first "Sweetheart", for the long-standing annual school fundraising event.

Janice was formerly employed at Thompson Coal Company of North Lima, and Kenmar Manufacturing of East Palestine. She also served many years as a precinct worker and precinct captain with the Columbiana County Board of Elections. Janice was also a longtime member of the East Palestine Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Janice married longtime sweetheart, Bernard C. "Cork" Doran, Sr. at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, where they became parishioners on December 31,1955 . They were married 58 years before Cork's passing on January 12, 2013. An infant son, Bernard Michael Doran, preceded the Doran's deaths in 1956. Janice was also preceded in death by their daughter, Mary Melissa Burch in 2017 and their son-in-law, Neal Burch.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, as well as four brothers, Donald "Joe" (Ruth) Mahon, Gene (Betty) Mahon, William "Red" (Ruth) Mahon, Bernard (Mary Jane) Mahon and two sisters, Velma (Sherman "Dick") Gorby and Mary Lou Haskins (Sid).

Janice is survived by three sons, Chuck (Cindy) Doran of New Waterford, Tim (Barbara) Doran of East Palestine and Jeff Doran of East Palestine; six grandchildren, Chad (Alison) Doran, Ian Doran, Tim (Adrienne Koegel) Doran, Melissa (David Madrid) Doran-Madrid, Breanna and Bryan Burch and one great grandchild, Evelyn Doran-Madrid.

A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Friday July 26, 2024, at the Linsley-Royal Funeral Home in East Palestine with Father Chad Johnson serving as Celebrant. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home prior to services.

Memorial contributions can be made in Janice's name to either the Cork Doran Law Enforcement Scholarship Fund of East Palestine High School or the East Palestine Social Concerns.

The family wishes to thank Caprice Senior Care and Ohio Living Home Health and Hospice for the kind and compassionate care they showed to Janice.
