Jacqueline A. Hersman
1954-2024
LISBON -- It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful but unexpected passing of Jacqueline A. Hersman, who left us at lunchtime Wednesday July 3, 2024, after a morning spent in her garden, doing what she loved.
She was born September 15th, 1954, in Salem, Ohio, the oldest child of Wilburne and Betty (Justison) Fristik.
Growing up in East Palestine, Ohio, she was a 1972 graduate of East Palestine High School and had resided in Lisbon the last 40 years.
A creative at heart, she loved to travel, was an avid gardener and lifelong entrepreneur. She was a nationally recognized folk artist and the longtime owner of The Cinnamon Heart gift shops in Lisbon and Columbiana. She pursued her love of food as the owner of the Steel Trolley Diner in Lisbon for over 30 years, winning many awards for her famous gourmet burgers.
Her career culminated when she opened White Church Co, where her passions for travel, gardening and cocktails inspired her lines of artisan jams, many of which became cult favorites. This was by far her favorite pursuit.
But it was her family where Jacki's true love shined brightest. She dedicated her life to her loved ones, instilling her children with kindness, compassion and empathy, showering us all with love and support. We will miss her terribly but continue to live our lives by her example. She lived her life with class, and we will love and miss her forever.
She went by many names to her family: Mother, Mommy, Momma, Mama Jacki, Lady J and "Mom Toots" (by her grandson), all our unique ways of expressing our endless affection.
She is survived by her husband Earle, of Lisbon; two sons, Ryan Hillman, of Lisbon and Macklain Hersman of East Palestine, and her beloved grandson, her "Bug", Payton Hersman of East Palestine. She is also survived by her stepdaughter Cassi North, of Cape Coral Florida; her "bonus son" Sergei Voitihov of Belarus; five siblings, a sister, Marlene (Rick) Kunkle, brother Dave (Grace) Fristik, brother Wilburne (Pam Stone) Fristik, sister, Kathy (Doug) Feezle, sister, Suann Strawser and a sister-in-law Tami Fristik as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by both parents, a brother Kurt Fristik, and her precious and dearly missed daughter Kendra Hersman.
Per Jacki's wishes, no services will be held but a celebration of life is planned in the near future.
Linsley-Royal Funeral Home in East Palestine is in charge of arrangements.
