1934-2024
Donald L. "Bull" Crawford, 89, passed away peacefully at his residence on July 3, 2024, at the age of 89. Born Aug. 30, 1934, in East Liverpool, he was the son of the late Charles R. and Evelyn (Bickerton) Crawford. Don resided in the area for his entire life.
Don spent his career working in maintenance; first for Colt Industries (Crucible Steel), where he remained until their closure in 1982 and then J&L Steel, where he remained until his retirement. His commitment to his work was evident in the meticulous attention and care he brought to every task.
A man of diverse interests and talents, Don was a dedicated father and an avid fan of restoring antique cars. One of his proudest accomplishments was restoring a 1937 Chevy Business Coupe back to its original stock condition, a testament to his dedication and passion. Don could often be found at local car cruises showing his cars and sharing his knowledge. He also enjoyed farming, canning, and making wine. He also loved making his traditional Christmas pizzelle cookies. In his younger years, Don could often be found sitting in the stands cheering on his sons as they played football for Glenmoor Rams. Don's big heart was not just reserved for his family. He knew the importance of team sports and was instrumental for establishing the "every child plays" rule.
Along with his parents, Don was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sondra R (Schultz) Crawford, whom he married on Dec. 1, 1956. Don and Sondra spent the next 65 years raising their boys and making memories with their family until her death in 2022. Don was also preceded in death by his three brothers: Fredrick, Kenneth, and Loren Crawford; and his granddaughter, Alexandra "Allie" Marie Crawford.
Don is survived by his two sons, Don Crawford of East Liverpool and Mark (Susan) Crawford of Cincinnati; his grandchildren, Robert (Mckenzi) Monday, and Rebecca Crawford; two great-grandchildren, Leelyand, and Margo; and his caretaker, Joyce Bangor.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024 from 4 to 7 p.m. and Tuesday, July 9, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Martin Chapel of Care Funeral & Cremation Specialists- Calcutta. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 9, at 11 a.m. with Pastor James Equals officiating. Don will be laid to rest in Calcutta Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ohio Valley Home Health for the wonderful care they took of their father.
