Darryl Frederick Jones

1947-2024

COLUMBIANA -- On June 10, 2024, Darryl Frederick Jones, 76, passed away at his home in Columbiana, Ohio. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Agnes Cecelia Jones, and his two daughters, Kathleen Jones Garrity of Virginia and Patricia Ann Mollenkopf of Ohio. He is also survived by his sons-in-law Michael J. Garrity and Michael Mollenkopf and his grandchildren: Betty and Lucille Garrity; Madison, Allison, Bridget and Sarah Borchardt; and Alexandria and Isabella Dickey.

Darryl was born in Salem, Ohio in 1947 to Frederick Jones and Betty Jones (formerly Cope). His sister, Karen Quinn, predeceased him. He graduated from Crestview High School in 1965 and was a lifelong fan of Crestview Football.

Darryl volunteered for military service during the Vietnam War, when he served in the security services. He reenlisted after the war and continued to serve in the United States Air Force for 27 years, serving on missions in every continent in the world, including a deployment to Kuwait during the Gulf War, and retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant (E-9) loadmaster for C-130 airplanes.

He met his wife, Agnes "Cec" Cecelia Jones (then Warren), while stationed in New Jersey and their two children were both born in that state. While following Darryl's career the family lived in Japan, North Carolina, and Virginia before he and his wife settled back in his hometown of Columbiana to enjoy their retirement.

Darryl was a devoted father and grandfather. His children recall a childhood filled with adventures and building projects, and his grandchildren recount how proudly he'd attend every school event and accomplishment he could. He was an active volunteer in the community, volunteering as a reading and homework coach in local schools and delivering Meals on Wheels for many years.

In his later years, Darryl became an active member of the Kingdom Hall in East Palestine, Ohio.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2024, at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana with Greg Aker officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the memorial service.

Burial will take place at Columbiana Cemetery, Columbiana.
