Janis Baltputnis

SALEM — Janis Baltputnis, 74, passed away unexpectedly Friday, May 24, 2024 at the Salem Regional Medical Center.
Janis was born March 21, 1950 in Augsburg, Germany, a son of the late Albert and Valerija (Klemms) Baltputnis and had lived in the Salem area for the past 45 years.
A 1968 graduate of Southern Local High School, Janis worked 46 years at GM Lordstown, starting at the van plant and then at the auto assembly plant.
He was a former member of Damascus Friends Church and had most recently attended at the Church at the Center in Salem.
Janis was an avid sports fan and enjoyed rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He also loved attending games and supporting his grandchildren as they participated in their respective sports. Janis also enjoyed classic cars and attending car cruises.
He is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife, Diane (Thompson) Baltputnis, whom he married June 16, 1979; his children, Janelle (Noah) Skrinjar of Rogers, Anna (Nathan) Gray of Rossville, Indiana, and Eric (Petra) Baltputnis of Hanoverton; his grandchildren, Jade, Stetson and Hudson Skrinjar and Kellan Gray; his brother, Andris Baltputnis of East Palestine; his niece, Stephanie (Bill) Spratt of Georgia; and his nephew, Chris (Dawn) Baltputnis of Columbus.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2024 at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with Rick Brendlinger officiating. Burial will follow at the Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
The family will receive guests from 11 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the funeral home.
