Helen Catherine Barnhouse

1938-2024

EAST PALESTINE -- Helen Catherine Barnhouse, 86, passed away April 7, 2024, under the loving care of the Christian House Assisted Living in East Palestine, surrounded by family.

Helen was born Jan. 24, 1938, in Darlington, Pa., daughter of the late Leonard and Verna Heaton Brown.

She was a 1955 graduate of East Palestine High School. She was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in East Palestine and served on the Ladies Aid Society preparing many bereavement luncheons for families. Helen worked as a cook for East Palestine Schools and later worked as an assembler for M&W Electric Mfg. prior to her retirement in 1984. She was dedicated to her family and church and made sure both were always the center of her life.

Helen is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jerry Barnhouse; a son, Jack Barnhouse of East Palestine; daughter, Gerri (John) Less of Greenford; a brother, Mike (Dee) Brown of Columbiana; sister-in-law, Betty Heaton of Chippewa, Pa.; four grandchildren, Aaron (Chris) Barnhouse, Corey (Victoria) Barnhouse, Isaac Less and Isabella Catherine Less, as well as four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Lucas, Ariella and Landon and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Chuck Heaton, Kenneth (Sue) Brown, Norman Brown and two sisters, Joyce (Joe) Chaposky and Dorothy (Bruce) Foster.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Linsley-Royal Funeral Home in East Palestine. A funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Chad Johnson serving as celebrant. A private burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
