1930-2024
Richard Ira Kiehl passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday, March 10, after a lengthy stay at Salem West Healthcare Center. He was 93.
Born Oct. 5, 1930, Rich was a lifelong Ohio resident, having lived the last 60-plus years in New Waterford with his wife Janet (Harroff) Kiehl whom he married March 31,1962, and her three children, Deb, Janet and Jim.
He was a hard worker, always fixing a truck, working on some other "project" or an outside activity. He worked a few years at Columbiana (Pump Company) Foundry to keep a roof over his family's heads. He owned Kiehl's Ashland Gas in New Waterford in the late 1960s. Mostly Rich drove a semi, which he loved to do, until at age 80 he was forced into retirement because insurance companies would no longer cover him -- even though he had a spotless driving record, of which he was very proud.
He served in the Army, was stationed in Alaska at a radar station and loved to tell about his adventures (escapades!) there.
He loved to hunt and was always eager to show off his guns accompanied by more stories.
Rich was preceded in death by his wife (March 16, 2017) and repeatedly said he wanted to die so he could be with her again. His wish was finally granted.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, Albert and (Mary) Loreena (nee Green) Kiehl, siblings Marion, Wayne, Donelda (Sis), Jeanette (Jean), Vera (Betts), Clara (Boots) and James (Jim).
Rich is survived by siblings Melvin and Wiliam (Bill), stepchildren Deborah Caupp (grandchild Tiffany Jones, spouse Brian and great-grandchild Jade Swiger, spouse Jarrett with great-great-granddaughter Octavia Swiger and great-grandson Jordan Colchin. Grandson Gary Hollander with great grandchildren Tanner, Milla and Gavin). Janet Callahan (spouse William Letcher, grandchild Joshua Callahan and spouse Stacey. Grandchild Erin Arico, spouse Joseph with great-grandchildren Rylan and Caleb) and James Beiling (spouse Cathy Harker with grandchild Jasmine Ambrose, spouse Anthony, grandchildren Austin Beiling, Travis Beiling with great-granddaughter Mila, Shanea Beiling with great-grandchildren Zuri and Alaric and grandson Cameron Beiling with great-granddaughter Azealia).
Private graveside services will be held at Crest Haven Memorial Gardens in New Waterford.
