Lorna Perks (Nash) Thompson died peacefully surrounded by family on Feb. 12, 2024, at the age of 92. A resident of Palm Desert for the past 30 years, Lorna was born and raised in Rockford, Illinois, then attended Duke University. In addition to post-graduate degrees from Kent State and Youngstown State, she earned a Doctorate in Psychology at the age of 82.
Lorna was a much-loved English, Psychology, and Journalism teacher and Drama advisor at East Palestine High School for 15 years. She initiated the "Epic" school newspaper, still being published by students today. Many of Lorna's former students who admired her kept in touch, letting her know of the lasting impact she made on their lives.
In 1989 the family moved to Redlands, California, where she thrived as a successful real estate broker, and an avid golfer. She later moved to Palm Desert, California, where she taught tap dance, with rhythm and style; Lorna's teaching skills inspired tap dancers throughout the desert community for decades, much to the great pleasure of her students. Lorna is survived by her husband, Robert Thompson; children Teri Nash Shira, Stephanie Nash, Lisa Nash Nicolay, and Lenny Nash all of California. She enjoyed seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
